I painted these pears as an exercise, but along the way I realized that something more was emerging.

The contrast between light and shadow, the choice of monochrome, the suspended stillness of the scene… it all brought me to a feeling of silent intimacy.

It’s a peaceful image, but also slightly melancholic. Like those moments when you pause to look at simple things, and realize you haven’t done that in a long time.
