"You always seem to paint things that oppose each other," my husband once said while looking at the lion and horse side by side on the shelf. "A predator and a prey that instead of fighting are simply coexisting."

I didn’t answer right away. How could I explain that those two animals resembled me? That I too felt split between the calm strength of the lion and the restless freedom of the black horse?
